Malt Liquor Time!

May 15, 2008

Yesterday was pretty much awesome.  I ordered an old Charlie Papazian book, “Home Brewer’s Gold” from some biscuit and book store (?) in Georgia and it finally arrived.

You may be asking yourself,  ”why is this so awesome?”.  For starters it has the fucking recipe for Olde English “800″. (more…)

All Grain Homebrewing #1

March 25, 2008

grainhand.jpg

I made the jump to all-grain brewing this weekend.  So far I’ve brewed 2 batches of beer (American Wheat from Homebrewing 101 and Pilsner Urkel) using extract kits and decided to take my shit to the next level and actually do all of the work from scratch myself.  Homies DBlue and Shojonz came over on Saturday and we cooked up 10 gallons of Southern English Brown Ale.  If you don’t give a shit about how you can make beer like the breweries at the convenience of your own home than jump to one of Serg’s posts about bacon dogs or deep-fried pancakes, they are way more entertaining. Everybody say hi Serg. (Hi Serg!)

Dude has been putting shit down like a boss forever. Peep his blog because dude is real as fuck and just joined up with Grocery Eats to cause additional mayhem. His knowledge of dranks and cuisine is definately going to be a big addition for us.

Jalapeno/Bacon Infused Vodka?

February 24, 2008

Perfect for the Sunday brunch Bloody Mary.

Three strips of bacon and one whole jalapeno, sliced length-wise were placed into the vodka chamber tonight.  Sarah said, “the fat rising to the top of the bottle looks like a lava lamp”.  Brunch at our place in three weeks!

Homebrewing 101 - UPDATE

February 20, 2008

 homebrew101.jpg

Everything turned out well.  My brother can’t stop drinking it and the guys over at The Garage Brewers Society (local homebrew club) said it was “drinkable”.  Not a bad review coming from some crazy beer aficionados.  I think it tastes pretty damn good for my first batch.

Pilsner Urkel

February 19, 2008

2005_0308_urkel.jpg

I brewed my second batch of home brew with my homie $50 Bill on Saturday.  It’s a Pilsner Urquell clone but I’m calling it Pilsner Urkel, which is basically the best name ever for a beer.  When I get stupid drunk and do something really dumb all I have to say is “Did I do thaaaaat?” and everyone laugh’s because I’m drunk and talking like Urkel.

I think one of you design peoples should hook up a Pilsner Urkel beer label for me.  Don’t worry about charging me because I won’t pay for it.

EDIT:

Here’s a photo of that shit lagering in my basement refrigerator next to some koolickles.  I should have this kegged in the next week or so.

Homebrewing 101

February 7, 2008

Seriously, who hasn’t wanted to make their own beer?  Over the last few months I’ve been really wanting to get into this and know relatively shit about it.  So last Christmas I got a gift certificate to a local homebrewing supply shop and The Brewmaster’s Bible.  After a few days I decided to dive in wallet first.
